On March 7, 2012, the American Psychological Association (APA) announced the national 2012 Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards winners. Pennsylvania business ReMed Recovery Care Centers is one of five winners. The Award is a collaborative effort between the APA and the APA Practice Organization and is designed to educate the employer community about the link between employee well-being and organizational performance.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has announced a new national health observance during the month of May. National Prevention Week (NPW) 2012, to be held from May 20 to 26, 2012, will help bring communities together through local events and celebrations that focus on the prevention of substance use and abuse and the promotion of mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being. These local events will be part of a new national movement to raise awareness around these important behavioral health issues.

SAMHSA is also is now accepting nominations for its 2012 Voice Awards. The Awards honor behavioral health and entertainment industry leaders, who play a vital role in educating the public about the real and uplifting experiences of people in recovery. The APA is making available to employers an education resource about the mental health issues affecting Latino communities and employees. Mental Health: A Guide for Latinos and their Families, a free a DVD and companion guidebook, is designed to inform employers and the general Latino public about mental health, dispel common misperceptions, and reduce the stigma of mental illness.
